Countertop Care Guide

Quartz vs. Granite: What Needs Sealing?

Granite and quartz are both durable countertop choices, but they respond differently to liquids, oils, heat, and protective treatments.

Granite is naturally porous

As a natural stone, most granite benefits from sealing. Porosity varies from slab to slab, which is why the material should be assessed rather than treated with a generic schedule.

Quartz is engineered

Quartz countertops contain stone particles and resin, making them less porous than granite. Still, specific finishes, seams, and high-use areas may benefit from professional protection after evaluation.
